The atelier

KOPPER ONE is a copper and brass workshop in Fes. We make lighting and decor by hand, using techniques long practised in the city’s metalworking quarters.

The process

  1. 01

    Shaping

    Sheet copper or brass is cut, then raised and hammered over wooden forms into lantern bodies, shades and trays.

  2. 02

    Piercing

    Patterns are drawn onto the metal and cut by hand with small chisels. The openings decide how light falls across a room.

  3. 03

    Engraving

    Surface decoration is chased and engraved with hand tools, giving each piece slight variations of its own.

  4. 04

    Finishing

    Pieces are assembled and left natural, polished, or aged to an antique tone, then wired where they are lighting.
